Galerie Andreas Binder is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Los Angeles based artist Steven Bankhead. This exhibition, the artist’s first solo show at the gallery, will feature a new installation consisting of drawings and sculptures. Steven Bankhead’s drawings and sculptures provide a multi-layered experience involving history, myth and contemporary culture. The title of the exhibition, “Pretty Vacant” refers to a song written by the seminal punk band Sex Pistols in 1977. “The End” is the glue that holds it all together.
The installation Bankhead is offering brings to mind "post no bills" / temporary construction barriers, found in urban environments, that become impromptu sites for posters, flyers etc. that are often posted over each other. Over time, this becomes a conflated history that speaks of rebelliousness, territoriality and temporality.
