TIM MAGUIRE
Seperation paintings
Opening: September 14th, 2007 7.00 p.m
Duration of the Exhibition:
September 15th to Oktober 30st, 2007
In practice Tim Maguire scans in photos or illustrations and defines them by virtue of their proportions of magenta, cyan, yellow und black. In accordance with these computer-calculated colour composition percentages Maguire superimposes thin layers of oil colours from the Euroscale, which then constitute the colours of the painting. He finally breaks the surface by 'arbitrary' use of solvents, whereby the transparency and translucency of his paintings is further increased, and in these places a complementary mix of colours can occur. The artist himself describes the new series of works 'Separation paintings' as a combination of the strictly mechanical method of reproduction and the random 'dripping' factor resulting from spraying on of solvents.
On the occasion of this exhibition Galerie Andreas Binder is presenting a new 244-page monograph on Tim Maguire, published by Piper Press and including many colour illustrations and English text. The catalogue can be purchased through the gallery. Tim Maguire's works will be on display at a major solo exhibition at the IKON Gallery in Birmingham, England as from 28th January 2008.
